- Exterminatus Chp1 - Cover

It has begun!! Exterminatus - Chapter 1. (One page every week from now on).

And this is the cover (not final) of the printed version. I wanted to start posting the cover and a couple of pages... but my life still sucks... cause my pc is still dead so theres no way of coloring anything...

I hope my pc will be brought back to life by the end of this week... if not, I will anyway start posting the pages of the comic, as in the original printed version, on black and white... but thats better than nothing I guess. I will paint them later...

Ya comenzó!!! Exterminatus - Capítulo 1 (Una página a la semana de ahora en adelante)

Y esta es la portada portada. Quería comenzar a publicar la portada y un las primeras páginas... pero mi compu sigue muerta asique no hay como pintar el asunto...

Espero que mi compu reviva para la prox semana y pueda comenzar a pintar de nuevo, pero en caso que no lo logre... igual voy a comenzar a publicar las hojas cada fin de semana en blanco y negro.... algo es algo... Ya despues las pintaré.

Y eso es todo por el momento...

So... yesterday was supposed to be the launch of the comic... but as always, good old Murphy had to do his little tricks on all of us. My computer actually died on Friday morning... after several attempts at restoring its life back I finally gave up and, with tears in my eyes, dropped it the repair shop. Sadly... that means no Photoshop for me, or FTP client... of Internet for that matter... So there's absolutely no way of doing the comic... or uploading it... And, on top of everything... turns out that my stupid university id is also a bit outdated so I was unable to access the university's Internet (or building) until today... So there, life sucks as always.

Anyway, I guess the comic will have to wait until my PC is back to the land of the living...

Pues resulta que ayer era supuestamente el lanzamiento del comic... pero obviamente el buen y viejo Murphy tenia que hacer de las suyas. Mi computadora murió el viernes en la mañana y despues de varios intentos por devolverle la vida finalmente me rendí y, con lágrimas en los ojos, fui a dejarla a servicio técnico. Lo cual tristemente significa que no hay Photoshop, o cliente FTP, o internet.. en resumen, no hay manera alguna que pueda hacer o subir nada a ningun lado. Encima de todo, resulta que mi id de la universidad esta un poco desactualizado asique no pude acceder a la internet en la universidad durante todo el fin de semana. Asique ahi lo tienen, la vida apesta.

Como sea... supongo que el comic tenrá que esperar ahsta que mi compu retorne a la tierra de los vivos....

Abstract: new website ready / nuevo sitio web listoSo... this weekend, since the launch of chapter one is delayed, I decided to fix up the website. The previous version was quite lame and needed severe improvement. It is still not quite right... but whatever... I haven´t been very inspired lately.

Anyway... here you have the new version: EXTERMINTUS v 2.0

Asique... este fin de semana estaba arreglando un poco el sitio web ya que el lanzamiento del capítulo 1 se postergó un par de semanas. La página web estaba bastante mediocre y necesitaba unas severas mejoras. Todavía no me termina de gustar... pero bueno... no he estado muy inspirado que digamos estos ultimos dias...

So.... now that the comic is done I thought that making a trailer for it could be fun... and it was indeed... of course it took far more time that expected.. but I think everything goes that way...
So yea... there you go...

By the way... release date for the web-version has changed... I was hoping to release both web and printed versions at the same time... but that would require to wait for a month or more for the printed stuff... which I don´t want to do. Nevertheless... I have to... so to avoid annoying everybody I will go into the middle ground... the original date was in a couple of days... and i should wait for a month... so.. new date will be in two weeks... I guess everyone has been waiting for a year now.. two weeks wont make a difference. That way i will also have time to finish the new website or should I say.. start to create it...

Ahora que el comic esta terminado (almenos la version blanco y negro) me parecio que hacer un trailer seria buena idea, como todo, tomo mas tiempo de esperado pero fue divertido.

Por cierto... la fecha de lanzamiento de la revista impresa se demorará un par de semanas más. Yo queria sacar revista y sitio web al mismo tiempo, pero ya que la imprimida va a tomar un buen tiempo mas la publicacion web tambien tendrá que moverse un poco... pero como para que las multitudes enardecidas no me persigan con trinches voy a comenzar la publicación online en solo 2 semanas en vez de las 4 o 5 que tomará la salida de la version impresa. En cualquier caso, la gente ya estuvo esperando creo que un año asique 2 semanitas más no serán tan terribles...

Esta demora también me dará tiempo para terminar (o comenzar a hacer) el nuevo sitio web para el comic.

Great new everyone!!.. Chapter 1 is done!!, inked, toned and "dialoged", the dialog part took a bit more than expected. I will finish the magazine today or tomorrow and post an amazing tutorial on that...
The magazine will be sent to the printer somewhere in the next couple of weeks... I hope...

The printed version will have 32 black-and-white manga-style-toned pages full of action, partial nudity, violence, and moar cool stuff. Also 8 pages with some fillers.. haha.. It will be available in comic stores somewhere in La Paz - Bolivia, and I really hope that I will be also available in Santa Cruz. I will let you know where to buy exactly as soon as i know more details.
And for the great majority of you, that like me, exist only in the internet and don't have the advantage of a material body or material money to go and purchase pieces of paper... the EPIC online version will be also released on the same date as the printed one, BUT... as reality is still the dominant realm in this world.. the online version will be released one page every week only... BUT.. remember, the online version will be full color and as you know i am quite lazy so a week to color one page sound like a reasonable time for me.. haha.. that way also i will be dragging a nice amount of web-traffic my way.. o yes.. web traffic is a healthy food for the ego.

Anyway.. thats all for now i guess... c u soon

Buenas noticias para todos!!! El capítulo 1 esta listo!!! entintato, con tonos y con dialogos, la parte de los dialogos tomo un poco más de lo esperado. Yo creo que terminaré la portada hoy o mañana y pondre un tutorial espectacular al respecto..

El comic será enviado a la imprenta en algum momento de las próximas 2 semanas... o almenos eso espero...

La version impresa tendrá 32 paginas blanco y negro sombreado con tonos estilo manga llenas de accion, desnudos parciales, violencia y más. además tiene unas 8 páginas de relleno.. jaja Estará disponible en tiendas de comics en La Paz - Bolivia, y realmente espero que esté tambien disponible en Santa Cruz. Ya les avisaré donde pueden conseguirla en cuanto sepa más detalles.

Y para la gran mayoría de ustedes, que como yo, existen unicamente en internet y no tienen la ventaja de un cuerpo material o dinero real para comprar pedazos de papel... la EPICA versión on-line será lanzada al mismo tiempo que versión impresa, PERO... como la realidad sigue siendo el reino dominante en este mundo... la versión on-line será lanzada de a una página por semana... PERO recuerden que la version on-line será a todo color y como sabrán soy bastante flojo.. asique una semana para pintar una hoja me parece tiempo razonable... Así además podré atraer una buena cantidad de tráfico a mi página.. el tráfico es siempre un buen alimento para el ego.

Y bueno... creo que eso es todo por ahora... asique nos vemos pronto...

- Rendering

This weekend I finally decided to change my inking technique... now its all Ilustrator... but I will speak of that next time...

Today.. the endless fun of rendering... Since I have almost 70% of the pages drawn and inked and ready... they look kinda sad without backgrounds, weapons and all the stuff that will be done in 3d. 3d stuff is REALLY fun.. but it takes a LOT of time when you don't know exactly what you want....

I use 3D Max just because I don´t know anything else and don't have time to lean new stuff, besides it gets shit done so...

Este fin de semana decidí finalmente cambiar mi técnica de entintado... no más micropen y LiveTrace... ahora puro illustrator... pero de eso hablaré la próxima...

Hoy... rendering... como ya tengo dibujadas, entintadas y listas un 70% de las hojas ya comienza a hacer falta los fondos, armas y demás cosas a ser dibujadas en 3D... lo cual es extremadamente divertido... y toma MUCHO tiempo cuando no sabes exactamente lo que quieres...

Yo uso 3D Max porque es lo único que se manejar y no tengo tiempo para aprender otro nuevo... como sea, hasta ahora he podido hacer todo lo que he necesitado asique....

Desde hoy, y considerando la gran cantidad de trafico que hay de todos lados del mundo, voy a comenzar a postear en ingles más,... Me parece que hay mas geeks hablando ingles que otra cosa, asique...

Todo lo que este en ingles estara en ese color medio azul.. y lo demas en blanco nomas.

- PART 8: Digital ink / Entintado Digital

Abstract: perfect digital ink in 3 simple steps / entintado digital perfecto en 3 simples pasos.

Here are the simple steps I follow while doing digital inking

Aqui los simples pasos que yo sigo para hacer mi entintado digital...

• STEP 1. Draw something / PASO 1. Dibujar algo

The drawing needs to be done in blue or green pencil and then drawn over with a thin black marker or a 6B pencil so that it is as black as posible. The scanner should not "see" the blue stuff so the drawing will end up clean and nice.

Este dibujo tiene que estar dibujado con lapiz azul, o verde, y repasado con (preferentemente) micropen negro, un lapiz 6B también sirve. El scanner no ve el azul al momento de escannear asique el dibujo queda casi unicamente con las lineas negras.

This way you can just make a mess with the lines for the eyes and stuff and just don´t care about it.

Asi además uno puede hacer todo un desorden con las lineas para los ojos, etc y no preocuparse mucho al respecto.

• STEP 2 and 3 / PASO 2 y 3

Step 2 is to eliminate the color, and adjust contrast and bright to the max (photoshop)
Step 3 is to use Live Trace on Illustrator

- 3D Max mini-tutorial

I thought it would be a good idea to put up a mini sample of 3D Max so you can see how easy it is to do stuff with it. A large part of the backgrounds, all the ships, weapons and other complex objects in my comic are all modeled in 3D and then rendered as comics to be mixed with the rest of the hand-drawn stuff.

I did this mini-tutorial a long time ago, but i edited it a bit and added some nifty music.. so there you go...

Me parecio que sería bien poner una mini muestra de 3D Max como para mostrar que es super facil modelar cosas. Una buena parte de los fondos, todas las naves, armas y otros objetos complicados en el comic son hechos totalmente en 3D y rendereados luego como lineas para ser despues mezclados con los dibujos a mano.

Este mini-tutorial lo hice hace bastante tiempo pero ahora lo edite un poco y le aumente algunas imagenes y musica...
